On the back of a wonderful series of sell-out concerts and festivals to launch their latest album 'Family', Cork trio Greenshine makes a welcome return to The SEAC.
'Family' received many accolades including being made Eve Blair’s Late Show Album of the Week on BBC Ulster, Euro American Charts’ “Ones to Watch”, KCLRfm ‘Ceol Anocht’ with Martin Bridgeman “Record of the Week”. Christy Moore described Greenshine as "...the sound of a family immersed in music, tight in harmony, in love with song," - a fitting tribute to a family who has made music their life
Hallmarks of a Greenshine performance are tight family harmonies, multi instrumental work, the strength of their own song-writing and choice of wonderful songs written by songwriters they admire including John Prine and Townes Van Zandt. Two singles released from 'Family', 'Dandelion Seed' and 'The Good is Gone' were co-written by Ellie and Mary and both hit the No. 1 spot on RTE Radio 1's Airplay list where they rested for several weeks, emulating the success of previous single ‘The Girl In The Lavender Dress’ (which went on to be third most played Irish track on RTE Radio 1 in the year of its release). A third single, 'Brother' from the album which Mary wrote with Cork songwriter Cormac O' Caoimh has reached No. 2 in the RTE Airplay Chart. "Just waiting any day now for their music to take off in the States. Their melodies and musicianship are just top notch, totally effortless” - Mathieu Norry, RTE Radio1 & RTE Lyric FM "This album is simply stunning" - Jimmy Stafford, Highland Radio Website: http://greenshinemusic.com
Noel and Mary have appeared on the albums of artists as diverse as The Republic of Loose, Dr. Strangely Strange and Christy Moore while Ellie has sung on projects including Ger Shine's 'All The While' and Grandfather 'Paddy Greene's Family Album'. Their latest album is dedicated to families in all their forms and features material which runs the gamut of emotions from happiness to grief.

“The Role of drawing is fundamental to my work. These drawings of crows and animals are sometimes prefaces to paintings, and sometimes a relaxation from them. They are works in their own right. They are witnesses to the changes to the landscape of Teeromoyle in South West Kerry – my mother’s place.” - Margo Banks

Shadows and Light make a welcome return to the Séamus Ennis Arts Centre; where they filled the venue and were rewarded with a standing ovation. Now a four-piece, with percussionist Dave McCune adding extra sparkle and energy, the combination of Maura Vambeck on vocals, David Mulligan on vocals and guitars, and Paul Enright on keyboards - brings Joni’s music to a whole new level. While their performances are true to the originals and to the spirit of Joni, they succeed in bringing something new, alive and fresh - making the genius of Joni’s words and music more present and relevant to us today.
By recounting wonderful little stories between the songs, and highlighting lyrics from the songs - the show becomes more than just the captivating and beautifully-performed songs - Maura brings us on a magical tour through Joni’s life, from her early and troubled beginnings, to the Blue album, through her various and famous lovers, the Woodstock years, acute observations on American life, on touring, her heartbreaks and joys, and the poignant story of her daughter. We navigate around musical genres too - as Joni did - weaving from folk to jazz, pop and even orchestral. If you know a bit of Joni, you will love this. If you know no Joni, you’re in for a treat. Join us for a night of Spanish Cinema and food* with our Cottage Café serving up some classic dishes with accompanying wines ahead of the wonderful new film from Pedro Almodóvar, Pain and Glory. Veteran director Salvador Mallo (Antonio Banderas) currently suffers many health issues, which he blames for the creative rut he finds himself in. As he tries to recover, he reflects on his life. Whilst recalling memories from the past, including those of his humble upbringing by his doting mother (Penélope Cruz), in the present he reconnects with past friends and lovers. Can this journey help him overcome his physical pain and rediscover his creativity?
Banderas and Cruz, with whom Almodóvar has worked extensively in the past, reunite with the award-winning director, to bring arguably his most personal film to date to the big screen.
